James Gowen, CFA CIO, Small Cap Equity
James Gowen joined Spouting Rock Asset Management (SRAM) in 2017, bringing over 30 years of industry experience. In his role as chief investment officer, he is head portfolio manager for the Small Cap Equity strategy.
Prior to SRAM, James spent time at Kalmar Investments in a variety of roles including co-leader of the investment team, portfolio manager and analyst. James began his investment career at Inverness Counsel, Inc. in New York, ultimately rising to vice president. Following research and portfolio management roles at Gardner Lewis Asset Management and E.R. Taylor Investments, he joined Friess Associates in 2001. While there, he served as principal, portfolio manager and research team leader during the firm’s peak of managing $18 billion in assets in equities.
James graduated from Macalester College with a BA in International Studies and is a member of the CFA Society of Philadelphia. He serves on the finance and investment committees of the HMS School, the Willistown Conservation Trust and the Neighborhood House. James enjoys woodworking, racquet sports and outdoor activities including fly fishing, especially with his family.
